The perfect pout is within your reach with these hot shades. By Juana Parathyras
BITTEN BY THE VAMP BUG
Purple is big news for lips. Juicy plums, shimmery violets and dark grapes have been spotted all over the catwalks.
PULL IT OFF
Team indigo lips with neutral eyes to avoid veering into the goth look. If lips this strong is scaring you, pat the lipstick on with your finger instead – the hue will be less intense. Concentrate colour in the centre of your mouth to get a cool, stained effect.
TANGERINE FLIP
Orange somehow always looks cool. More unexpected than red and less girly than pink, it’s the shade to wear when you want to look a bit edgier.
PULL IT OFF
For a really intense orange pout, do the double-colour trick – apply your lipstick as normal, blot with a tissue to help the colour set, then reapply another layer on top.
ARE YOU REDDY?
If you’re not already a fan of this primary hue, now’s the time to join the cheer team. It’s a sure-fire way to get all eyes on you.
PULL IT OFF
The long-standing rule is that cool, blue-toned reds work best if you have paler skin and warm, orangey reds look better on olive or dark skin. To be honest though, it’s a case of try before you buy, so grab a girlfriend and hit your nearest Foschini.
THINK PINK
A bright pink lippy will always get our vote, plus, it look great on skin that is just starting to lose that summer glow and needs a quick pick-me-up.
PULL IT OFF
The brighter the better, and go for a glossy finish, as lips with a high-gloss sheen will look electric. Make sure you pump up the volume on your lashes to get the most out this look.
TIP If all the bold colours are a bit scary, tone things down by wearing any of these shade as a gloss. You’ll still have a pop of colour, but it’ll be less intense.
