I’m very skinny and my friends often tell me how cool it is that I can eat whatever I want and not pick up weight. But the fact is, I hate the way I look. Sometimes I look in the mirror and all I see is a sick skeleton. It actually disgusts me. I wish had more of a ‘girl’ body. How do I get that? – Poppy*
Sam says: What’s at issue here is not how you ‘get’ a ‘girl’ body but how you can learn to love and accept the body you have. I’m assuming you’re perfectly healthy. Being extremely under- or overweight may be a sign that there’s a health matter, such as diabetes or an overactive thyroid, that needs to be addressed. Once these have been ruled out, we need to look at why you have such negative feelings about your body. Why do you feel you’re anything less than beautiful? What does being so skinny mean to you? Have you spoken to someone about your feelings? While your views about this need to be dealt with and while you may not be able to change your body type, you can tone your muscles and go on a bulking diet (not without supervision though).
